We’re Expecting!

If you’ve been following me on social media then this isn’t news to you, but it’s been a minute since I last updated the blog and at 6 months pregnant, it’s better late than never right?

Here’s the video announcement if you’ve missed it. Thank you to our friend, Randall, for shooting this pregnancy announcement for us.

Honestly, where do I even begin? The last 6 months have gone by so fast but also slow at the same time. I’ve experienced the majority of pregnancy symptoms you can get from morning sickness to food aversions, to round ligament pain and acid reflux, and even had food poisoning at one point that landed me in the ER. NOT fun! But I guess I’ll start at the beginning so grab your coffee or tea and get comfy.

HOW I FOUND OUT I WAS PREGNANT | We went out to dinner with one of my best friends at a sushi restaurant in Manhattan Beach, and if you don’t know me, then let me tell you that I am a huge sushi lover. I have it at least once a week and this night was not an exception, however, halfway through dinner I felt nauseated. There was nothing wrong with the sushi, we were at a high-end restaurant with great quality fish and I was the only one feeling this way. Even the next day, neither my husband nor my best friend said they felt sick. I wasn’t due for my period for another week or so, but I had a hunch and grabbed a pregnancy test. After two tests, it was confirmed that I was pregnant and my initial reaction was a mixture of excitement, fear, worry, and anxiety. We had talked about trying since January but after 3 months of working around my ovulation time, I kind of gave up and figured we just try again at the end of the year. Of course, nothing ever happens according to plan and I think my not caring anymore helped, hah!

Side note: I wrote a lengthy post about this on social media as well, being 35 years old (36 in just a few weeks) and how we made it a priority to live for us before planning for a baby. See the post here.

So what was the first thing I did after finding out? Facetime my best friend! I was leaving for a girl’s trip to Vegas the following weekend and my wedding anniversary was coming up in 2 weeks, so I had to talk my plans through on how I was navigating all this. I initially wanted to do a whole thing for my husband but I’m also not good at keeping things in around him, so the next evening after a long day of work, I showed him the test after dinner. We were both just so happy and talked about how we would tell our family members & closest friends. See the video for their reactions here.

THE FIRST TRIMESTER | Let me just tell you that I hated every part of the first trimester because of all the pregnancy symptoms. It mentally, emotionally, and physically screwed me up, and I want to make it clear that it’s OKAY to feel this way. It doesn’t mean you don’t love your baby nor does it mean you’re a bad person for feeling this way. Some people just don’t have the best time and it’s valid to voice this.

I had my first ultrasound & doctor’s appointment at 8 weeks. This is the earliest they would see me, even though I found out around 5 weeks. I found my OBGYN through my sister-in-law and fortunately for us, she delivers at the hospital that’s just down the street from our apartment. Despite being 35, my appointments are pretty regular and because I’m in good health, I don’t need any additional appointments to be added. I see my doctor just once a month and the ultrasound specialist a total of 3 times throughout this entire pregnancy. My OBGYN is also kind enough to offer complimentary ultrasounds at every single appointment and my ultrasound specialist sends us videos & photos from each appointment to our phones. Baby Sole will have plenty of photos to look back on later on from this pregnancy.

Hearing the heartbeat for the first time was pretty surreal and I honestly couldn’t believe I was pregnant until after getting through my first trimester. I also couldn’t eat much because of my food aversions and I was constantly tired.

Note: I have a list of pregnancy items that I’ve been using for anyone interested!

THE SECOND TRIMESTER | I’m currently 25 weeks and I did not get the “glow” right at the start of my second trimester. I got food poisoning instead and spent over 6 hours in the ER but Baby Sole was fine, thankfully. The first few weeks of my second trimester were similar to my first except my food aversions lifted and my energy was slowly coming back.

I also didn’t “pop” until after 22 weeks but my clothes already weren’t fitting since the end of the first trimester, and maternity clothes aren’t exactly cheap so instead I’ve been sizing up and shopping the clearance section at Marshall’s (which is also a great place to find baby clothes). As for working out, I still go to my boxing sessions here and there but have slowed down over the holiday break, as life got a little hectic and my energy has gone down again. I’m just taking things day by day and that’s all you can do with these growing pains.

Nesting is underway and so is the start of our nursery. I know that the baby won’t be using it right away, but I want it to be done before he arrives so I can fully focus on just taking care of him. How much of this we get done in reality will be the challenge but I plan on documenting it for you all so make sure you follow me on Instagram and Tiktok. I’ll have a few posts on here as well.

This is it for now, I’ll make another update when we get halfway through 3rd trimester but if you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to reach me on my socials.
