This is what community looks like!

On May 29, 2022, we hosted an AAPI Fundraiser Hike at Griffith Park with Kong Fit Club and raised $1,000 for Compassion in SGV.

By “we”, I mean myself, Rubina, and Meagan Kong (creator of Kong Fit Club). What started out as an idea of wanting to do something for AAPI Heritage Month grew into a community activity that benefitted our physical health and our mental health while supporting our AAPI family. May is also Mental Health Awareness Month.

Each attendee donated $20 and 100% of the proceeds went to Compassion in SGV, an all-volunteer organization aimed to help stop Asian hate and support the elderly Asian community with chaperoning services.

In addition to the 1.5-hour hike, we also raffled away 3 bags full of goodies and 2 gift cards (1 to Kong Fit Club) and the other to a local AAPI-owned boutique, Chunky Paper.

To reward our hikers, we had flan cupcakes from Pastries on Demand, a self-taught Filipina baker, and Rubina’s aunties cooked up some delicious lumpia and pancit.

We couldn’t have asked for a better turnout, especially on a 3-day weekend, and our hearts are so full of love from everyone who showed up and showed out to support the AAPI community. We love you and cannot thank you enough!

Big shoutout to my co-hosts Rubina and Meagan, for making this one of the easiest and most stress-free events I’ve ever hosted. Thank you to KSOLE for the photos and to Papa Bernabe for manning the table during our hike!
