Conveniently located right across from Fashion Island, the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel & Spa offers a relaxing getaway with live entertainment, family games, and a Starbucks located onsite. Not to mention easy access to Balboa Island and the Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve. Although I highly recommend spending time on the hotel property itself and enjoy the sweeping ocean views, beautiful interior decor, and expansive marble bathrooms.
While there is a restaurant inside the hotel, I would not recommend it. After two bad dining experiences in a row, I have to say that this restaurant has disappointed me greatly. The first night we enjoyed the live musical performance during happy hour, however the food selections were sparse and the dishes we ordered left us sick. Not sure if it was the fish and chips or the crab dip, but both didn't really impress us at all.
For dinner the second night, I had issues with my entree as I had asked for it to be prepared medium rare. The steak came out rare and uneatable, in which I had to send it back. Upon its return, I realized all the kitchen did was throw it back on a pan - the entire plate including my asparagus, so I had a medium well steak and overcooked asparagus to eat. Actually, I didn't even eat it because by then, I lost my appetite and skipped on dessert so I can go back to the room. It was probably one of the worst experience I've had at a hotel. This issue was promptly discussed with their management team, so I hope changes do happen so that future guests won't have to eat dinner over at Fashion Island (or Postmate a meal like we ended up doing).
However, aside from this incident, the rest of our stay was great as we had the best room in the hotel which was their Presidential Suite. The loft styled room had gorgeous natural lighting and everything I wish my own apartment had.
Overall, the stay was a nice change of scenery as we don't venture into Newport Beach too often. Being closer to the water is always a plus for me and the getaway was also a good excuse to catch up with a dear friend that I haven't seen in awhile.
Thank you Newport Beach Marriott Hotel & Spa for having us.
