Loews Ventana Canyon

Tucson isn't the first city to come to mind when you're thinking about a weekend getaway. However, Loews Ventana Canyon Resort will certainly make you reconsider. A top choice amongst luxury resorts in Arizona, Loews's stunning Catalina Mountain range, Lakeside spa, and 18-hole Canyon and Mountain course will leave you feeling refreshed, recharged, and relaxed.

I have to admit, I didn't know what to expect especially after arriving Friday evening (via car) to a monsoon. We weren't aware that it was monsoon season, however I have to admit that it was a gorgeous sight to see and you can't beat a light show created by Mother Nature.

The resort is tucked away in the mountains and the view fro our balcony took my breathe away. From the moment we drove up to the point of checking out, the staff at Loews Ventana was amazing. The hospitality staff, servers, and chefs were a delight to talk to and always had a smile on their face. Then again, Loews is known for their great customer service so I never doubted that for a moment.

Loews Ventana has a busy schedule of activities, events, and fun things you (and your family) can do. We had an overall amazing time, but here are my top picks for a weekend stay.

Cascade Lounge: Live Music + Happy Hour

The Lobby Bar has appetizers, happy hour specials, and  a live band (Friday and Saturday nights). We stopped in after dinner Saturday to see a lively crowd of happy, go-lucky couples and groups that were dancing their night away. I always love a good show and seeing others light up with joy is infectious. I couldn't help but smile along as I watched them enjoy their night. Happy Hour is every night 5:30-7:30PM; an additional happy hour occurring on Friday and Saturday nights between 9:30-11:30PM.

Hiking Trail/Waterfall

A short 10-minute hike through the resort gives you a view of a gorgeous waterfall. Yes, it was humid outside and we complained the whole hike up about the heat, but it was totally worth it.

Lakeside Spa

What's a weekend getaway without some R&R? We got to experience the Sedona Sacred Clay Treatment, which included 80-minutes of pure bliss. It was my first time doing a body wrap and feeling how soft my skin was after, I definitely can't wait to get another one!

The Flying V Bar & Grill

We had dinner Saturday night at The Flying V Bar and Grill. Chef Ken certainly didn't disappoint us, nor did his staff and the service. We had a great experience dining while watching the monsoon occur. My favorite dishes included the ahi tuna and the table side guacamole is a must! With a large variety of Tequila, you can't miss out on the drinks and make sure to save room for dessert.

Mountain and Canyon Course (Golf)

I'm not a big golf player but I do enjoy the driving range. Besides, who doesn't like driving a golf cart? We spent Saturday afternoon hitting and driving through the massively huge golf course, getting lost a few times. Also came across a few cute, furry animals and no, I'm not talking about Pokemon

Blues, Brews, & BBQ Sunday Brunch

Every Sunday, from 11AM to 2PM, enjoy a "hip and casual" brunch at Canyon Cafe. Chef's own outdoor BBQ grill, featuring local micro-brews on tap and live blues music from local legends. There are three main stations, plenty of mimosas and bloody Mary's, and of course, dessert. The live band certainly is a treat and you can't beat endless meat.

There are plenty of other activities offered by the resort, but if you're looking just to lay by the pool, that's available too.

Thank you so much for having us Loews Ventana!
