Available nationwide, Blue Apron recipes are delivered in a refrigerated box so that all items stay fresh. For those watching what you eat, each meal is between 500 and 700 calories per person and all ingredients are fresh, straight from family farms and artisans.
Pros: You can select to have weekly delivers for 2 people, 3 meals or you can select the family option which feeds up to 4 and can ship up to twice a week. Every meal is prepped in 35 minutes or less and within 6 easy to follow steps. Nothing is wasted! You get exactly what you need in the perfect portions.
Cons: You don't get to pick your meals. They ask for your location, you list your preferences, set a delivery schedule and you're all set. The menu is set for each week and you get to see what's available but I guess it's supposed to be a surprise when you receive your package. Unfortunately, I don't like surprises when it comes to my food and while the 3 meals delivered were good, I wouldn't select them myself. This is the biggest difference between Plated and Blue Apron, as you can select what you want for Plated.
Overall, KSOLE and I did enjoy the meals. They were easy to make, quick and under 35 minutes but I didn't exactly have all the items necessary to cook with it. I have one big pan and a small pot. We worked with what we had and it turned out fine, but if I knew ahead of time what I needed, it would've been easier.
Flavor wise, I liked the chicken dish the best. I didn't care for the ramen or the fish, but I could've overcooked the fish so that's my mistake - hah. Between Plated and Blue Apron? Plated.
