I love seafood, especially shrimp so it is easy to guess why I chose to dine at Bluewater Avalon during our Catalina Island stay. I'm also a sucker for views and while it was too cold for us to dine on the patio, next to the ocean, I still was able to admire the water from inside.
Walking into Bluewater Avalon, I immediately noticed a smiling hostess and a great looking bar. I'm not much of a drinker but it sure made KSOLE happy to see the selections of beer offered. We loved the decor of the restaurant, the historical photos and the fishing rods were a great touch.
We started off with calamari for our appetizer, per our waitresses recommendation. The calamari was well seasoned, came with two types of sauces, and was crisp to perfection. We've had calamari numerous of times, in fact we had it the night before we went to Bluewater Avalon at another restaurant and you can really taste the difference! Bluewater Avalon's is by far a favorite with this dish.
Moving on to the main dishes of the evening, I had the lobster tail with homemade potato chips and a side of mixed vegetables. The chips were amazing, I wish I had more of that and the vegetables had a great flavor to them. The lobster tail was good, however I found it a little tough to chew and expected more.
KSOLE had a shrimp and scallop pasta with an amazing sauce. I regret not ordering his entree, as the waitress had told us it was one of their most popular dishes and I can see why. The pasta was al dente, the amount of sauce was perfect, and the shrimp was good. The downfall were the scallops, which were a little overcooked.
The food was overall delicious and I would love to go back during lunch time for the ocean view. There are also a few other things I wanted to try, but was too full after our entrees as they were just the right portion. The staff was very attentive and extremely nice; one of the best services we've had in awhile. If you're looking for a cozy place to dine with excellent service, stop by Bluewater Avalon during your Catalina stay!
