Things You Can Do To Protect Your Peace

As you get older, you start to realize that your inner peace needs to be a priority. Not only for your sanity but for your overall wellness. Now that I’m in my 30’s (34 to be exact), I have started to question what truly is worth my time and effort. After all, at the end of the day, only you are in control of your own happiness.

Here are some ways you can maintain your peace—

Stop assuming or expecting others to be mind readers because no one can read your mind.

Instead, take the time to properly communicate your needs. Take breaks during arguments to collect your thoughts, return to conversations at a later time so that you don’t say something you may regret, and give yourself the space you need. Nothing ever gets resolved when you’re emotionally distraught.

Say no when you mean it, and yes when you mean it.

Don’t do things just to please others. Ask yourself, if I do this, will I be happy afterward or will this just stress me out more? It is completely OK to decline invites. Remember, you are never missing out on anything when you’re working on yourself. You’re already winning.

Stop caring so much about what other people think.

Focus more on how you view yourself. Trust yourself. Stop breaking those promises you told yourself you’d keep. you are worth every effort and time so invest in yourself.

Surrounding yourself with the right energy.

Vibes don’t lie. When someone shows you who they are, pay attention and stop altering their image by what you THINK they can be. You cannot change anyone who is unwilling to change for themselves.

Uphold the boundaries you have established.

No one gets an exception. Not your mom, your sister, your boss. Stick by your boundaries, make them clear, reinforce them (because you really will have to) and know that you’re doing this for your own mental health.
